Words of wisdom

Our nonprofit experts on how to close out the year

You’re in good company. We’ve got decades of experience and hundreds of campaigns under our belt. Hear from nonprofit experts on how to wind down the year, get ready for the next, and stay filled with gratitude.

  • Reflect on the profound impact you've made in the lives of individuals and communities.

Your dedication, passion, and hard work have brought about positive change and inspired hope. Every small effort contributes to a larger, transformative narrative.

Remember that it's okay to acknowledge the stress and challenges you've faced. You've demonstrated the strength to overcome obstacles and find innovative solutions. Take pride in your ability to adapt and persevere.

    Erin Kahn, Nonprofit Partnerships Manager

  • Keep wellness in mind as you wrap up the year.

Continue to take breaks, and take a step back to understand what needs to be done vs. what you would like to get done.

    Nahja Martin, Nonprofit Partnerships Manager

  • We need you as much as the world needs your mission and organization.

While the end of year is stressful, let this be your permission to take time for yourself and encourage your staff to take this time too.

Change is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes leadership means digging deep. Today, let it mean knowing that rest is as important to your mission as grants and success measures are.

    Kayla Kuboyama, Philanthropic Partnerships Manager

  • As you approach end of year madness- embrace gratitude.

Every report shows the impact you made, each representing a life you changed.

Reflect on how you transformed the kindness of your donors into difference.

Pause to appreciate your teammates and how this work surrounds you with people who care.

Your work affects change, cultivates kindness, and fills the soul. We are grateful for you.

Week 1

Week 2

  • December 18

Get started on next year’s Annual Fundraising Calendar.

You don’t have to have it all together, but having one started and ready to go will make a world of difference!

  • December 19

  • December 21

Take a quick inventory of office supplies, program supplies, technology– place any last orders that should fall in the current year budget.

Take a moment to remind everyone to save and back up all projects… and ensure they are saved in the correct place (shared drive, organization server, etc.)

  • December 22

Write a personal note to each board member to let them know how important they are to the work you do.

Reach your goals

Understand your impact and reach your goals by setting targets, tracking your progress, and collaborating with your stakeholders.

Coaching

You’re not alone on your journey. Get expert advice for provide guidance and support through same day Q&A, open office hours, group coaching events, and more.

We utilized Resilia for coaching services for two different grants. I was able to have a coach review my grant draft and provide feedback, and I reached out to a financial coach to help with the wording for a section on audit/financial controls/fiscal oversight. She provided some solid language to help me articulate what we do and how we do it.
