Resilia Announces Nonprofit Microgrant Award Winners

We are thrilled to announce the winners of the Resilia Nonprofit Microgrant Program for the fourth quarter application period ending December 9, 2022. After a committee review of all outstanding applications, the following five organizations were selected to receive a $1,000 unrestricted grant.

BG Teen

BG Teen’s mission is to provide safe spaces and programming where LGBTQ youth, their friends, and allies can exist authentically, form a community, and be affirmed and supported throughout Bowling Green, KY. The Resilia microgrant will help BG Teen with operating costs as they grow and expand.

“I am so grateful and excited to receive this grant,” said Crystal Akers, Founder, and Director of BG Teen. “A core priority of BG Teen is making sure programming has as few barriers as possible, and that includes making sure it is free to participate. We started including dinner at each of our Tuesday night meetups, and that time around the table has been invaluable to building community and relationships. We also believe programming will need to be scheduled more frequently than twice monthly as participation grows, so this is a welcome and needed gift to us as we continue to meet this need in Bowling Green. Providing this safe space and this community can legitimately be a lifeline to them.”

Three Virtues Organization, Inc

Three Virtues is a nonprofit organization focused on improving minority families throughout South Miami and Dade County, FL through self-empowerment, education, and advocacy. Their participants are families ages 0-65+, including low-income, immigrant, migrant workers, and refugee families, who they support with after-school care and summer camps for students, a food pantry, social services, and referral services.

“This grant will help us touch more families in need,” said Alpha Fleurimond, President of Three VIrtues Organization. “The microgrant will support the scholarship fund allowing three low-income children to attend a 7-week camp program without paying out-of-pocket. We’re so grateful for this grant which will allow us to begin reaching our goal.”

Confident Queen Collective Foundation

The Confident Queen Collective Foundation’s mission is to empower girls to have confidence, character, and courage. Confident Queen Collective exists to reduce teen suicide rates among Black and Brown teen girls through an innovative digital membership community, school-based programs, leadership development programs, mental health education, and life skills development.

The microgrant will allow the organization to continue delivering programming to girls for at least two afternoons per week during the academic year and provide opportunities for girls to participate in field trips, camps, and career panels.

“The Resilia Microgrant Award will be very impactful in assisting us to reach our current and future goals of supporting the mental wellness of black and brown teen girls,” said Dr. Jenaya White, Founder of Confident Queen Collective. “More specifically, it will greatly assist us in hosting our 2nd Annual Power Up Teen Summit. The Power Up Teen Summit is Philadelphia’s first city-wide conference for black and brown teen girls in August 2023.”

True Beginnings

True Beginnings, a nonprofit organization located in Las Vegas, NV, assists formerly incarcerated women and their families by offering them the support and resources to overcome barriers that prevent them from reclaiming their rightful place in American society. Although a young organization in Las Vegas, True Beginnings has made significant progress in increasing reentry support for formerly incarcerated women in Southern Nevada and in building local and statewide reentry infrastructures that rely on the leadership, perspective, and experience of formerly incarcerated people.

True Beginnings will use this grant to extend their computer workshop classes to an additional eight women per month, for a total of twenty women working on becoming productive citizens and reuniting with their families.

“During 2022, we have supported 56 people with housing and employment needs who have also taken advantage of our direct services opportunities such as credit restoration and financial literacy,” said CEO and Founder Vera More.

“Due to the support of organizations such as Resilia, we can provide housing scholarships to two women each month, allowing them to move in without payment, take advantage of our workforce development services and stabilize for the first 45 days of their stay at Divinity House. We look forward to fulfilling our 2023 goal of filling our independent living home while reaching our goal of 25 graduates in our credit restoration program and securing another ten employers as partners.”

Union County Fatherhood Initiative Coalition, Inc.

Union County Fatherhood Initiative Coalition’s mission is to provide fathers and men throughout the Greater New Jersey area with information, education, connection, resources, support, and guidance to improve their lives, health, and family relationships.

“We will utilize this grant to expand our Family Navigator Program,” said Rev. Ron Thomas, Director of Programs and Board Secretary of Union County Fatherhood Initiative Coalition.  “This funding will be used to expand the research component of the program to prepare, conduct and survey men and fathers in the county to identify common barriers that they face in pursuit of their family goals.

We congratulate all five of our micro-grant award recipients on their fantastic work! Through their efforts, they are making a real difference in their local communities—and we are proud to support them with funding through our microgrant awards program.
