Challenges
Although familiar with nonprofit work from board involvement, taking on the organization’s first staff role and then first leadership role presented many new challenges for new Executive Director, Tori Tanner.
With a background public health and healthcare administration, Tori is an expert in delivering health education for mothers and children, and knows how to realize Nurtured TX’s mission, vision, and values.
However her expertise in healthcare couldn’t have prepared her for the never ending list of to-dos that come with running an entire nonprofit organization, like keeping track of numerous moving pieces, managing high-pressure situations, and dealing with the constant funding burden from grants and donor stewardship.
Key Challenges
First Full-Time Employee
Transitioning from a completely volunteer-run organization to a single full-time Executive Director handling everything.
From Expert to Everything
Tori’s transition from board member to sole leadership, required many new skills to handle operations, strategy, and all aspects across the organization.
Constant Funding Pressure
Constant focus on grants and donor stewardship, making the financial side of operations demanding.
High Stakes, No Support
The sole employee at an organization with only volunteers can be isolating and lonely, and the never ending tasks can quickly lead to burn out.

How Resilia Supported Growth
Through Resilia, Tori was able to access the tools, support, and peer network she needed to confidently lead Nurtured TX into its next chapter.
Academy provided Tori with learning modules and resources, enabling her to build the essential skills needed for her executive role, as well as pre-made templates, providing the structure and starting block for tackling new tasks. Through the Academy, she gained valuable insights into nonprofit management, which were crucial as she navigated her transition from a volunteer-run organization to a full-time operation.
Coaching offered Tori direct, personalized support to guide her through complex decisions and refine her strategies. With expert coaches by her side, she was able to ensure that her plans were aligned with the organization’s goals, create a path forward to achieve them, and gain confidence in her leadership.
Community provided Tori with a network of nonprofit leaders and experts who shared similar challenges and solutions. By engaging with this community, she gained valuable insights, advice, and practical solutions, empowering to move forward with confidence and feel connected to a broader team.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
“[Without Resilia,] there would have been lots of time spent outside of our mission and program delivery, taking away our limited resources.”
